But Mr. Yishai now welcomes retraction and invited him to Israel.

The Israeli Minister of the Interior told Army Radio that he had offered a tour of Israeli communities in the South who have endured decades of Palestinian rocket attacks at Mr. Goldstone.

U-turn

The Goldstone report, published in September 2009, found that potential war crimes committed by Israel and the militant Palestinian group, Hamas, during 2008-2009 Gaza conflict.

Israel refused to cooperate in the investigation, accusing the panel to be biased. He did, however, conduct independent investigations into more than 400 allegations of misconduct.

In an article of opinion in the Washington Post, Friday, Mr. Goldstone wrote that Israeli investigations, which have been recognized by a Committee of the United Nations, stated that "civilians were not intentionally targeted as a matter of policy".

Israel has since demanded that the UN scrapping of the report.

But the United Nations Human Rights Commission stated that it stands by the report. A spokesman said that Mr. Goldstone must present a formal request if he wanted it changed.

Israel said that it launched operation Cast lead in response to the rocket repeated attacks on Israeli territory by militants in Gaza.

Some 1,400 Palestinians have been killed, including hundreds of civilians, and 13 Israelis.
