Thai military: death toll rises in the confrontations of the Thailand-Cambodia - CNN International

A Thai military officer said five Thai soldiers were killedCambodia said that three of its troops were killedEach blame aside the other for the violence that broke out near two temples of thousands were evacuated from nearby villages.

Bangkok, Thailand (CNN) - violent clashes over a disputed along the Thai-Cambodian border area erupted for a fourth day running Monday, resulting in the death of a Thai soldier, said a military official.

Four other Thai soldiers had been killed since the beginning of the fight against Friday, according to colonel Sansern Kaewkumnerd.

Authorities evacuated thousands of people from nearby villages.

Each side accuses the other violence which erupted the week last near two temples in the province of Surin district Phanom Dong Rak at Thailand.

Government of Cambodia stated that three of its soldiers were killed.

On Monday, Sansern accused Cambodia of trying to seize two ancient temples, Ta Kwai and Ta Muen Thom.

The fighting on the ground was coupled by a war of words these days.

Sunday, Sansern accused Cambodian troops first open the Thai fire and said troops responded to protect the sovereignty of their country.

The Cambodian authorities could not immediately be reached for comment. A statement of the Ministry of defence of the country Saturday described the Thai clashes as an "attack by infantry units", accusing the Thailand flying spy planes in Cambodia and to tackle the heavy weapons.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Thailand, issued statements Saturday accusing Cambodia of the "firing of heavy weapons to Thai innocent civilians."

In February, at least 10 people were killed when fighting broke out in another region of border between the two nations, which prompted the United Nations Security Council to issue a statement calling on both parties to implement a ceasefire.

These clashes, which lasted four days, was the result of a long-standing dispute related to the Temple of Preah Vihear of the 11th century. Cambodia and the Thailand claim the temple, which is located at the top of a cliff on Cambodian soil, but has its most accessible entry on the Thai side.

At the time, each nation has accused the other of firing first.KOSHA Olarn of CNN has contributed to this report.

Mexican bodies in pits tally rises to 116

Mexico's Attorney General Marisela Morales attends a news conference in Mexico City on Tuesday. Henry Romero/ReutersMarisela moral for the Attorney General of Mexico attends a press conference in Mexico City on Tuesday. Henry Romero/Reuters.

Mexican researchers have found a total of 116 bodies in pits near the American border, 28 more that previously reported, Attorney General Marisela Morales said Tuesday.

Morales said a total of 17 suspects linked to the Zetas brutal drug gang were detained for murder in the North of the State of Tamaulipas, which some have allegedly confessed having kidnapped the passengers of the bus and kill.

Interior Secretary Francisco Blake Mora pledged to intensify the presence of the troops and federal police, in the region where the killings occurred and not leave the area until the killers and drug gang there have been captured.

"Organized crime in his desperate attempt, resorts to commit atrocities that we cannot and should not tolerate that a Government and as a society," said Blake.

The tombs were found earlier this month in the township of San Fernando, the same area of Tamaulipas, where researchers have discovered the bodies of 72 migrants massacred by armed men of alleged drug cartel last August. Most of 72 migrants were from Central America, who frequently travel through the area to reach a United States.

Police say witnesses in the last case of murder said that armed men fired the victims, mostly young men, off the coast of the bus passengers travelling through the area of San Fernando at the end of March. The authorities accuse the abductions on the Zetas, the same group accused drug gang in the massacres of migrants.

The motive for the abduction of bus is uncertain, although prosecutors have suggested that the gang may have been forcibly recruiting people to work for it.

San Fernando is a town approximately 145 kilometres south of Brownsville, Texas, on a stretch frequented Road off the coast of the Gulf. This is an area patrolled regularly by the Mexican army.

The Zetas and rival Gulf Cartel are fighting in Tamaulipas on the lucrative drug transit routes to the United States.

The authorities are working to identify the bodies, which may belong to an American citizen, DNA samples and other techniques.

One of the bodies is a Guatemalan man, said the Government of this Central American country.

The victim was identified as Feliciano Tagual Ovalle, 44, the Guatemalan Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement late Monday. The statement did not say if the man was a migrant or a resident of the Mexico. He said that the Guatemalan Government planned to make to the host organization.

Mexican authorities confirmed one of the victims was Guatemalan and said another was a man of the Centre of the Mexico. Mexican prosecutors had said earlier most of the bodies were citizens likely Mexican.

Houses in Manitoba more evacuated as Red River rises

About 50 homes North of Winnipeg were evacuated Saturday morning because of rising waters, a provincial agency has opened the doors of the Red River Floodway.

Homes, mainly on the road to Jenny in the Netley Creek area of the regional municipality of St. Andrews, are more accessible by road, and residents are having to leave by boat. Evacuations began Saturday morning to 8 pm CT.

The emergency measures organization asked the other owners in the area to prepare to leave quickly, collection of drugs and other personal of value objects so that they can move at any time.

In St. Clements, across the Red River, there is no evacuation of the overnight despite previous alerts. All 40 houses which have been considered at risk as ice jams threatened to cause flooding backup were still high and dry Saturday morning.

St. Clements Mayor Steve Strang told CBC he gives credit for this fact to the residents by adopting a more proactive approach on sandbagging this year than in past years, when many homes were flooded.

"I was so pleased that we did not send our people to emergency y to save the lives of other people again this year", he said. "To relive that would have been totally wrong…."

"I remember people standing on their desks, their roofs, waiting to be registered in 2009".

Manitoba water resources management had announced late Friday that the Red River Floodway would open its inlet control structure to 9 pm CT, with a horn begins one-half hour prior to the neighbouring alerts.

"If unforeseen events occur which make it necessary to change this time, another public notice will be issued," the Department added.

"The progressive lifting of the doors is designed to protect the city of Winnipeg, while now water levels in the South of the entrance of the Floodway to natural levels," officials said in a Friday newsletter.
